City Books is, first and foremost, a used bookstore. Previously owned and remaindered books are our highest priority.
As a result, we only consider new book pitches by Pittsburgh/regional authors–and we exclusively order those books via Ingram. We no longer accept books on consignment or direct sales through authors. If your books are available through Ingram, they must be returnable and priced at the industry standard of 40% below retail. We regret that we will not be able to work with you if your books are printed only via Amazon/KDP.
We suggest reading M. J. Etkind’s “Indie Author’s Guide to Marketing to Bookstores, Libraries, and the Industry” for insight into the way most independent bookstores order books.
If your title meets our publication requirements, please send a (non-returnable) review copy, one-sheet, and marketing plan to City Books, 908 Galveston Ave., Pittsburgh PA 15233. No in-person or phone requests will be accepted. All decisions are final.
Readings & Signings
City Books no longer holds on-site, evening events. We may consider a weekend table signing during regular business hours for authors whose books we carry.
