Named for a whiskey infused Hemingway short story, the Three Day Blow Writers Festival is a Pittsburgh-based conference designed for food and drink writers looking to explore a dynamic regional food system and grow their professional skills and networks. If you haven’t heard about the festival yet, stop reading and click here . As a part of the festival, City Books has been asked to host a short reading and discussion, combined with a local beer tasting.
The reading is entitled “Bottoms Up: Celebrating Beer & Booze” and will feature local writer Sherrie Flick, author of Whiskey, Etc. (Queen’s Ferry Press, 2016), William Bostwick, author of The Brewer’s Tale (WW Norton, 2014), and David Wondrich, author of Imbibe! (revised and updated from TarcherPerigee, 2015).
Helltown Brewery will provide beer to the 21+ guests. Located in Mt. Pleasant, Helltown was started in 2011 by Shawn Gentry and several home-brewing friends. They found a used 15-barrel brewing system in Colorado, and set up shop in the old mechanic’s garage where they are still brewing today.
The event is FREE and runs from 4:30-5:30 PM. The bookstore will have extended hours on that day.
